The World Martial Arts Federation - Kung Fu in Los Angeles

Teaching Self-Confidence, Self-Discipline, Concentration, Self-Control, Self-Respect and Respect for Others
Does the woman in the picture look impressive to you? She does? I'm glad you said that. Because in real life she's absolutely gorgeous. I don't mean you should hit on her, because she's got a Black Belt, a husband you don't want to mess with (10th Degree Black Belt) and two adorable kids. What I mean by "gorgeous" is that you see a POWERFUL lady, an amazing combination of confidence, communication skills (and you'll see when you meet her, she LOVES to communicate), friendliness and love of people, all in one rare feminine package.

This lady's name is Grand Master Ari Moon. She's got Ph.D., 8th degree Black Belt, Kung Fu, Chi Gong, Tai Chi... you name it, she's got it, man! Together with her husband, Great Grand Master Yong Moon, she runs this Kung Fu school named Moo Sool Won (The Martial Place) on 1149 Crenshaw Boulevard in Koreatown, Los Angeles. On Earth Day I met with them and quite a few of their staff. Some young, some not-so-young but all very young spirited, healthy looking and very friendly, very respectful of you whoever you are.

They invited me to participate in their free classes and I'll give you some details in a sec, but first..
Why Martial Arts? Why Kung Fu? What does it do for us?
Grand Master Yong Moon teaches the following wisdom:

"There are four main benefits to training our mind, body, and spirit:

  1. We strive to build good character. What we mean by 'good' is in the common meaning. Rather than define 'good,' it will be easier to give examples. The first thing a student learns is respect. We bow to one another out of respect for others, respect for ourselves, and respect for the Korean culture. We learn patience by practicing the basic stances. learn perseverance by stretching. We gain self confidence by practicing and improving our abilities. We acquire self-discipline by exercising our bodies.

We train to have self control, for example, control over our emotions. We enhance our concentration, awareness, and focus. The list goes on and on, but the most important step of being a 'good person' is to be able to look in the mirror and be true to oneself.

  2. We practice martial arts to be healthy. Most people forget the significance of one's health until they are bedridden. Money and fame are only secondary to health. Health is crucial, because without it there is no life. We promote a healthy mind, body, and spirit unified and blessed by God.

  3. Martial arts is a beautiful art form with a rich history. Just as the musician strums the guitar and the painter brushes the canvas, the martial artist moves side to side like a falling leaf, crashes down like a wave, flows like a stream, walks like the wind, stands like a mountain, and catches the eye of the viewer with his magical movements.

  4. "Martial arts can also be deadly. As we train in martial techniques, we can use those skills to protect our loved ones and to defend ourselves in times of necessity.

"Ultimately, martial arts is a tool to help improve our lives, our family, our community, our nation, and the world."
