Shuttleworth Leadership Society International

Leading Tomorrow's Leaders
On the 2005 Earth Day event I stumbled across one of the most amazing women in the world: Mary Shuttleworth. She wasn't there by accident. Mary is the creator of several institutions now turning into worldwide movements, which work together for youth around the world. Mary enhances these kids' ability to understand the world around them and to be better citizens of the world.

And boy, you should see how happy, confident and mature her students are. I met only a few and they were each a gem, a "little" citizen with a very large personality and abilities. Mary's product.

The following is but a glance at the various institutions and projects under the worldwide umbrella "Shuttleworth Leadership Society International".

Mary's Schoolhouse
Mary's Schoolhouse, an Applied Scholastics school, was created with the intention to get the Study Technology fully in use and exported into the community. This is a primary through middle school located in the heart of Los Angeles. Visit Mary's Schoolhouse website for details.
Shuttleworth Academy
An upper school based on the same surefire Study Technology which rapidly prepares a person for life through intensive study, hands-on activities (streamline personalized programs for those who qualify), and community outreach programs. Visit Shuttleworth Academy website for details.
Youth for Human Rights International
A youth organization with the purpose to educate youth in human rights so they become valuable advocates for tolerance and peace. Youth for Human Rights International was formed because it was realized that very little is being done to teach human rights to young people. In support of the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education, this youth organization is working on a human rights campaign to bring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to youth through essay and art contests and by providing materials for students and teaching guides for schools.

One of Mary's greatest projects was the 2004 World Educational Tour. Youth for Human Rights International undertook a 45,000 mile, 35-day World Educational Tour to introduce the booklet "What are Human Rights?" to 13 nations. Reading the story I was thrilled at the intensity of the action, moved by the pictures of distant kids and adults exploring, possibly for the first time, ideas we may consider common and trivial. read the full story (you have to click each nation's name to see the photos).

"What are Human Rights?" is an illustrated, user-friendly brochure that explains the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in language children readily understand, is already an international hit. Many educators, religious and human rights leaders, government officials and of course, young people, now use "What are Human Rights?" to learn and teach the Declaration and its vital importance.
