I must admit to great ignorance on the subject of pet adoptions. I saw these bunch of cute girls on Earth Day, promoting pet adoptions. Cute, but not for me, I thought, so I only approached them when they were almost gone for the day. But worse than that, I did not UNDERSTAND why pets are so important for the survival of Mother Earth. The faint picture in my mind was
"it's cute, sure, so people and kids who love their own animals will surely care more about Animal Kingdom."
This may be true, but it's only the tip of the iceberg.Well, I owe an apology to all you pet lovers, including Tricia, for this misunderstanding. But it all changed yesterday... Mr. Jason Anthony, Executive Director of Earth Organization International, sent out a broadcast titled "How Do We Handle The Environment?". In his letter Jason explains, and this is the first time for me to really understand, why animal adoptions are important - and how they directly link to the future of life on Earth. What Are These Guys & Girls Doing For Pets And Pet Lovers?First of all I have to say, their website is impressive in its depth of information, linking and references.Pet Orphans Of Southern California, a non-profit organization, is one of the oldest active humane organizations in the Greater Los Angeles area with a private shelter. The shelter facility is located in Van Nuys (north of Los Angeles). An average of 60 dogs and 30 cats are housed until they can be placed with new guardians. Since 1973 they've facilitated adoptions for 1000's of pets! Most of those have been transferred from city/county shelters. Pets are anxiously awaiting a new home - and you're more than welcome to help in this regard, by simply giving a good home to a lovely pet. Pet Orphans' major activities are all carried out with a firm commitment to serve the best interests of the animals:
My page here is too short to really cover this wonderful and important activity - get much more information on Pet Orphans' website, and adopt as many pets as you can :-)
